Description

These community gardens are on NPS owned land in Alexandria Va. adjacent to Jones Point Park and the Potomac River. I was closing down my plot for the winter in November and was startled by a red shouldered hawk erupting from the ground in front of me. I realized it flew off with a snake. It perched nearby and I took a photo of it feasting on its prey. Despite the abundant foliage around it, both the hawk and the snake are clearly in focus and the hawk has been clearly eating at the snake's head - a sight you don't see everyday to be sure.
